Step 1
You can only take a Proctorio-enabled exam using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. If you need to, download and install Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge before continuing set up. If you are unable to install Chrome or Edge, contact your instructor about an accommodation.
Review Proctorio's Minimum System Requirements before attempting to start an exam.
Step 2
Go to https://getproctorio.com/ and follow the instructions listed on the page to download the Proctorio browser extension.
Please Note: You may need to disable other extensions that interfere with Proctorio, such as Privacy Badger, for the duration of the exam.
Step 3
Navigate to Quizzes in Canvas and select your exam. Read the information provided by your instructor and then select Take the Quiz.
Step 4
Step 5
Step 6
If you see a Fix errors to continue button at the bottom of the page, Proctorio has detected issues such as alternate browsers or multiple monitors. Select the button and follow the instructions to resolve.
Please Note: if you see a warning about your computer memory, just ensure other applications are closed before taking your exam and otherwise disregard this message. There is a known issue where Proctorio does not estimate your available memory correctly.
Step 8
Step 11
Step 12
Before and/or during your exam, you may be required to perform Room Scan. To do so, rotate your webcam slowly in a 360 pan of your work surface and every corner of your room.
Step 13
Finally, Proctorio will ask you to certify that the information collected is correct and that you will abide by CU’s Honor Code when taking your exam. Select I accept, begin exam now to start your exam. If your instructor has set a time limit for your exam the exam time will not begin until you click this button.
Step 14
If you need additional assistance before or during your exam, Proctorio's Live chat can be accessed by clicking on the browser extension (gray shield icon) or by going to proctorio.com/support and clicking the live chat button. Visit OIT's Proctorio service page for additional support resources.
Browser Requirements: Make sure that the student is using a Chrome browser and has the Proctorio extension installed.
If they have everything set up correctly, they will see a little gray icon up to the right of the URL in their browser window that looks like a shield. (If it asks them for a password, that is because they aren’t using Chrome with the right extension installed.)
Computer Requirements: Note that the student must be on a computer with a working mic and webcam. This software does NOT work on an iPad or tablet. They were made aware of this during the online orientation in Moodle so it should not be a surprise.
Ways to get support from Proctorio:
Live Chat: If a student (or teacher) clicks on the gray shield up in the URL bar while they are in the Moodle course that uses Proctorio, the option will pop up for a Live Chat. Click on the little, gray shield icon to the right of the URL bar in the upper-right of your browser window and then click on the 'live chat' button
Web help: https://proctorio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us offers options for help for instructors and/or students.
Email: support@proctorio.com
Phone support: 1-480-428-0692 or 1-866-948-2039
System Status: If you think Proctorio is having problems, click on https://proctoriostatus.com/ to find out.
If a student got kicked out of an exam, they will have to ask their instructor to override it for them. No one at the IT Helpdesk can assist them with this issue but the instructor.
